Colin & I took the Vara out for a short day run from home at Castle Rock down through Baerami & along the Bylong road, now all bitumin, to the Ulan turnoff just shy of Bylong. It was a good road before being sealed, albeit quite a challenge on some of the dirt sections. Now its a lovely stretch of long straights & sweeping bends with just enough up & down hills & hairpins between Baerami & Bylong to give it interest. The only spoiler is the amount of tintops towing vans & horsefloats that use the road now it is sealed.

We turned onto the Wollar Rd, which is partly dirt then onto the Wollara Rd through the Goulburn River National Park, which is almost all dirt till we neared Merriwa. The view from the lookout was much better than anticipated & the Vara handled the park tracks very well indeed.

From Merriwa it was a steady run along the Golden Highway to Sandy Hollow then onto the Wybong Rd to home.

    Ride Around Australia October 2010

In October 2010 we are riding a Honda Varadero around Australia to raise money for the Steven Walter Foundation's Answers for Kids Cancer Program. We will document the the journey with a daily diary, where possible, of the trip.
